Spent 4 nights here over Christmas. A beautiful building internally and externally (apart from the entrance to the hotel which is at the rear of the building, which certainly doesn’t do the rest justice !!). The management and staff were outstanding and the food was excellent. The bedroom was comfortable and well serviced. The weather whilst there was extremely cold and unfortunately the heating available in our bedroom and in the hotel’s public rooms was certainly not adequate enough. (The original large sash window frames which are single glazed do not help but it would possibly be a mammoth job to replace the windows, especially as there could be a preservation order involved ?) Simply ensure that you take some warm clothes with you to really enjoy this hotel in the winter months. We certainly will visit again but when the weather is warmer.

Fantastic hotel.Setting is amazing with great grounds for dogs. A really pleasant receptionist got us off to a good start: we got a ground floor room as requested. The room like the rest of the hotel is spotless, warm and comfortable. The meals have been exceptionally good with vegan options on all courses. The hotel is ideally situated for many wonderful walks close by. All in all a brilliant place for a holiday or short break.

I had a great experience here, staff were lovely. My favourite being Marley. We had 2 night stay, had a lovely breakfast and the room was really clean and the bathroom was modern with a good shower. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed for one night at this lovely, step back in time, hotel. A big thank you to Rhona, one of the serving staff. She was very friendly and spent some time speaking with us and made a sincere effort to connect. Having been in the tourist industry myself, I know how important it is for staff to spend a bit of time with customers Staff, like Rhona are the best ambassadors for the property The beds were comfortable and the rooms clean. Lots of hot water! The history of the hotel as a military hospital was very interesting. As a couple of tour buses had left early Sunday morning, breakfast was a bit sparse. We talked about how it would have been nice to have stayed longer.

My lab Doug and I had a wonderful stay The location is excellent, and the staff were very accommodating—especially in helping me find quieter areas to take work calls, which made for a stress-free visit. The team was friendly and helpful throughout. While the rooms could use a bit of updating, the charm of this historic hotel more than makes up for it. I’d definitely recommend staying here. The nearby town is also a gem, with a beautiful square and fantastic food spots.

Hi I stayed with a friend on the 12/12/25 for 3 nights, as we approached the hotel by coach we were in oar of the magnificent standing of the the place over looking the village below. Our room, was a decent size with tea an coffee a plenty, was very clean and cosy warm too, the bathroom was clean and had hospitality toiletries. Evening meal was excellent it was hot and was just enough in each serving. The Staff were excellent too, nothing was to much for any of them. Will definiately be back, in fact 22/05/26 I will see you all again. Thanks for an amazing stay
